What does the syllabus contain?
The Driver CPC syllabus will broadly contain subjects covering; appropriate vehicle use, Road safety & Advance driving techniques, Passenger safety and Awareness, General health & Safety legislation, Regulations governing Drivers’ Hours, Vehicle Roadworthiness, Operational logistics and your own personal fitness as a driver. Drivers would either be trained or relate their knowledge in relation to;
- The correct and sympathetic use of various transmission & braking systems, safety controls, and vehicle loading.
- Road Traffic law, defensive and eco safe driving and how to deal with emergency situations and avoid road rage incidents.
- Passenger comfort and safety, understanding the needs of people with disabilities, dealing with children and controlling difficult situations and conflicts.
- Legislation covering general Health & Safety procedures and responsibilities
- Understanding Drivers’ Hours rules regulations, the correct and proper use of Tachograph equipment, enforcement and penalties for infringements.
- Vehicle roadworthiness, driver walk-round inspections, identifying & reporting defects and the role of VOSA (Vehicle and operator services agency) and their powers of enforcement.
- Understanding the Operational obligations and constraints of your employer, industry logistics and characteristics.
- Your own personal fitness as a driver, health problems, basic nutrition and exercise, drinking and driving, drugs, adequate rest and legal obligations.
