Minibus Road Safety training
During 2009 we will be introducing an improved Minibus Road safety training day for drivers who drive minibuses on their car licence. The training will help drivers understand and keep up to date with the essential laws, regulations and responsibilities of minibus driving.
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 requires employers and organisations to take appropriate steps to ensure the health and safety of their employees and others, such as passengers, who may be affected by their activities. These activities include driving a minibus.
Operating a minibus, whether commercially or under charitable status comes with the responsibility for training drivers, volunteers and staff of minibus road safety regulations and ensuring they understand and take responsibility for observing these rules.
Minibus Road Safety training will help you fulfill these legal obligations. Our specialist training will provide an informative and relaxed learning atmosphere with video presentations, activities and practical demonstrations to help drivers and non-driving staff understand and remember these laws and responsibilities.
This 1 day training includes:
- Minibuses, Driver responsibilities and the law
- Daily walk-round roadworthiness checks

- Passenger safety & Disability awareness
- Health & safety and Manual handling awareness
- Defensive driving
- Personal safety, Breakdown, Accident & emergency procedures
- Fire evacuation demonstration

- Minibus road safety challenge
or the MiDAS theory test
MiDAS certification (optional)
Get the best from both and benefit from professional training and MiDAS certification through one simple training package from SC Driver Services, an authorised MiDAS training provider. Drivers can choose the option of MiDAS certification by undertaking the Minibus Road safety training with the additional following:
- Midas Theory test
- Observed Drive
To help promote a better understanding of the needs and responsibilities of minibus drivers within your organisation, Minibus Road safety training is also available to non-driving volunteers and staff who assist drivers in a non-driving managerial capacity. Participants are not required to undertake the MiDAS theory test or observed drive. However, please note that MiDAS certificates cannot be awarded on this basis.
Training can be held at your own organisations premises for private groups or individual drivers are welcome to attend any one of our pre arranged training open days subject to availability.
Employers, organisations and drivers
As an employer or organisation operating a minibus and ensuring that all drivers understand these responsibilities is a statutory obligation. Simply assuming that drivers “already know what their doing” would be a risky assumption that could leave you jointly responsible if anything were to go badly wrong.
Therefore, drivers who just pick up the keys, jump in the seat and drive off unaware or refuse to undertake any safety obligations and owner/operators who fail to inform and train their drivers of these obligations will be exposed to a high risk of serious accidents, court prosecutions or being left without a driving licence.
Evidence has shown that organisations who offer staff or volunteers specific training in safe driving techniques and Minibus Road Safety have a lower accident rate compared to similar organisations in the same sector.
